~Zucchini Bread~

This summer, with all the wonderful zucchini that the Lord has blessed us with in our garden, I decided to try a new recipe...Zucchini Bread! At first I thought it was kind of different to make bread out of something green, :-) but I went ahead and made the bread and it was really good! :-) Here's the recipe!

Zucchini Bread

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 beaten egg
1 c. sugar
1 c. finely shredded, unpeeled zucchini (or for Apple Bread use 1 1/2 c. finely shredded, peeled apple instead of zucchini)
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted

1. Grease the bottom and 1/2 inch up sides of an 8x4x2-inch loaf pan; set aside. In a medium bowl combine the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and nutmeg. Make a well in center of flour mixture; set aside.

2. In another medium bowl combine egg, sugar, zucchini, and oil. Add zucchini mixture all at once to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened ( batter should be lumpy) Fold in nuts. Spoon batter into prepared pan.

3. Bake in a 350* oven for 50-55 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan. Cool completely on a wire rack. Wrap and store overnight before slicing.

Have a very blessed day!

There was also a live band called "Arabesque" that played for our group that evening! The music was quite lovely! :-)

Lining up for the Grand March.

Here we are in the middle of the Grand March.

Getting in position for the Lancer's Quadrille-4th figure.

Here are some of my cousins and brothers having quite an enjoyable time I'd say. :-)

Attempting the two step. :-)

As the ball drew to a close we (the dancer's) all gathered together for a group photo. :-)

Having a ball....

.....preparing for one! :-D

It's rather exciting! The ball is later this week and we're trying to make sure all of our wardrobes and accessories are in order! We had ordered some hoop skirts for Mom and me from e-bay and have already received those and the gloves for my dad and older brother should be on there way. :-) Mom has been busy sewing on the civil war uniform for my older brother and it is really starting to take shape!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've been

looking at hairstyles on the internet and on the

left is a picture of one I attempted to duplicate today. :-)

I also thought about trying one with part of the hair pulled up with lots of curls cascading down or maybe something like the the ladies hair in the next picture....hmmm.....we'll have to see what we can come up with. :-)

We also recently watched the movie North & South, which wasn't about the Civil War, but I believe it was set around that time period. It was a pretty interesting movie! :-)

And lastly, here is a link to a you tube video I watched and was amazed at how many people were dancing and how straight the dancer's kept their lines. The place in which they dance is also beautiful. Enjoy!

~A Work in Progress~

Sunday afternoon we stopped by Wal-Mart and purchased the men's civil war uniform pattern and material along with a few of the notions called for on the back of the pattern. That particular Wal-Mart didn't have every item that was on the list that day, so we'll have to pick the other items up a little later on.

The outfit is in the making though! Yea! :-) So far we are in the cutting out process. The jacket and trousers have already been cut out and now we're working on the lining and will soon be cutting out the interfacing......and then on to the sewing! :-)

Blessings,
~Chloe~

~Preparations for a Summer Ball~

Hello everyone!

Our family has been planning for the upcoming "Summer Ball" which we hope to attend this month, where we will be dancing some of the dances that were done in the Civil war time period (1860's). :-D (It should be lots of fun!!!)

We have been researching on the internet for what the gentlemen, ladies, and children wore, what the hair styles were, did they where gloves, among whatever other information we can find on the subject! ( Kind of a like a unit study.) ;-)

Anyway, as Mom and I were looking for dress patterns, she saw one that reminded her of one that my Aunt had worn in (or around) her high school days. It looked somewhat like the one in the picture on the right. We called my Grandma to see if she still had the dress and she did! She said I could borrow the dress and and she also remembered a dress that will work for Mom! :-)

Before we new my Grandma had a dress that would work for Mom, she tried on her wedding dress thinking that she might be able to wear it to the ball if she altered it a little to make it look more like a civil war ball gown.

And yes, after 24 years of marriage and four children, she still fit in her wedding dress!

And for the guys of the house, we plan to order some white dress gloves and right now we are thinking we will try to make at least the jacket part of this uniform pattern. :-)

Blessings to you all,
~Chloe~

Happy 4th of July!

~The Star Spangled Banner~
Verses 1 and 4

O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last
gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts
we watched,
were so gallantly streaming!
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace,
may the Heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made
and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must,
for our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Red
is for
Victory
White
is for
Purity
Blue
is for
Loyalty
God Bless America!~
Blessings,
~Chloe~
